Congenital Heart Disease



CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE: 

Congenital heart defects are heart abnormalities or predisposition to the same present from birth.
The congenital and hereditary terms are not synonymous. All hereditary diseases are congenital, but the reverse is not met (not all congenital diseases are hereditary).

ETIOLOGY OF CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE: 

While the causes are unknown, leading to the onset of these diseases, other risk factors that predispose them are known:
Parents under 18 or over 35
Other congenital disorders (eg Down Syndrome)
History of congenital heart disease in parents or in previous pregnancies
maternal diabetes
maternal alcoholism
Drug or drugs by the mother
Parental consanguinity
